Exams are not an accurate measure of a person’s ability
Цель - совершенствование коммуникативных умений по теме Образование, контроль монологической речи
Задачи:
Познавательный аспект:знакомство с технологией ведения дебатов, умения аргументировать заданную позицию;
Учебный аспект: совершенствование навыков диалогической и монологической речи, развитие навыков аудирования, использование вербальных и невербальных знаков поддержки и одобрения, дополнение реплик собеседника или развитие его точки зрения, стремление избежать категоричности высказывания (I don't think you are right); использование завуалированных способов выражения несогласия; полувопросительных интонаций в конце утвердительных предложений; разделительных вопросов, использование союзов и вводных слов (linking devices);
Развивающий аспект: развитие мышления, памяти, внимания, восприятия; формирование навыков межличностного общения;
Воспитательный аспект: четкое следование временному регламенту, поддержание бесконфликтной атмосферы коммуникации, развитие у школьников умения сотрудничать, активно слушать.
Students in the group are given a definite part:
Debaters – 2-4 people per team
Chairperson – Moderates the debate, starts and makes conclusion
Time Keeper – Makes sure that the time schedule is kept
Jury – Decides who wins the debate
General Format:
Topic (Motion): The topic for debate is "Exams are not accurate measure of a person’s ability.”
The affirmative (pro side) will argue for this resolution. The negative (con side) will argue against it (to keep the status quo).
Organization: Two teams of three to four members each; one chairperson who monitors everything; a jury who will decide the winner of the debate; and a timekeeper will keep note of the time.
Preparations: Each participant beforehand gets the following Card and gets ready for the Debates according to his/her part. The members of affirmative and negative team think of strong arguments to support their position.

The procedure of the debates:
Time Schedule: 40 minutes
Part I: 15 minutes
Chairman – 5 minutes
1st Affirmative: 3 minutes
Cross Examination: 2 minutes
1st Negative: 3 minutes
Cross Examination: 2 minutes
Part II: 10 minutes
2nd Affirmative: 3 minutes
Cross Examination: 2 minutes
2nd Negative: 3 minutes
Cross Examination: 2 minutes
Break: 3 minutes
Part III: 4 minutes
Negative Rebuttal: 2 minutes
Affirmative Rebuttal: 2 minutes
Part IV: 8 minutes
